Peru: Teleconsultation module for cancer patients was recognized by Cancer World magazine

The specialized journal Cancer World recognized the work carried out in Peru with the teleconsultation module for cancer patients installed at the Hospital de Lamas in San Martín.

In 2015, the Lamas Hospital, a town in the San Martín region, implemented a teleconsultation and telechemotherapy module, so that in face-to-face consultations, doctors and patients received remote support from specialists. Magazine Cancer World, described this event as an important milestone since it decentralized care in cancer treatment, which for many years was available only in Lima.

About ten years ago, the government of Peru began a strategy for the decentralization of cancer treatment, implementing various establishments of the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN) in remote areas.

Likewise, the magazine highlighted the initiative promoted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Peru with ONCOpeds, a tool that links pediatric oncologists with the families of minors with suspected cancer.

The Cancer World article exemplifies the various applications of telemedicine worldwide, especially in the care and attention of cancer patients, also highlights the strategies of Australia, Canada, France and India.

Similarly, the magazine also recognized the work of telemedicine strategies and cancer treatment carried out by other Latin American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Nicaragua.
