The implementation of the electronic medical record advances in Peru

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Health Insurance of Peru (EsSalud), signed an agreement that will promote the implementation of electronic medical records in the health system.

The objective of the Minsa and EsSalud is to improve care for all users of the public health system. In this sense, they signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement for the implementation of the National Registry of Electronic Medical Records (RENHICE), which promises to be a database of all patients in the country.

One of the main problems of the health system in Peru is the lack of patient information and registration of their data. “With this agreement we have the objective that all the medical information of people, their health history, diagnoses, received medications, tests, vaccinations, among other data, are unified and preserved in a single electronic database for the entire system. of health”, explained Hernando Cevallos Minister of Health.

On the other hand, Gino Dávila, executive president of EsSalud, explained that this collaboration seeks to integrate the electronic medical record and achieve a commitment to the health of the population. In addition, he stressed that "at this time of pandemic, the participation of all sectors is essential."

Likewise, Cevallos indicated that the implementation of the electronic medical record will enhance the scope of telemedicine. "On many occasions, patients must pay to undergo a new diagnosis if they go to another health facility and in this way the possibilities of doing telemedicine are limited, especially in the most remote population centers of our territory", detailed the minister.

Finally, the minister concluded by stating that this action will promote the advancement of the right to health for the entire population.
