The government will provide basic telemedicine equipment to more than 4,000 primary care health facilities, as well as to 135 second care. The plan will begin this year and end in 2021.
Pedro Cateriano, President of the Council of Ministers, reported that the Government of Peru will provide telemedicine equipment in more than 4,000 primary care health centers. argued that 80% of the population will benefit from this action, especially during the COVID-19 health crisis in the country. "With the application of telemedicine, vulnerable health personnel forced to stay at home will be able to care for patients from home,” he explained.
Peru has a telehealth system, which includes teleconsultas in various specialties, delivery of medicines to patients' homes, use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for the administration and management of hospitals and medical centers, among others.
This project considers an investment of more than 200 million soles (56.6 USD), and the 4,135 health facilities contemplated are expected to have the equipment agreed for the year 2021.
In addition, Cateriano indicated that the plan also proposed adding 2,49 health facilities (EESS) to the Electronic Health Record (EHR), therefore improving patient information management. There are currently a thousand EESSs that have EHR.
Another advance was the search for the adoption of electronic prescriptions and improving the distribution of medicines. "This will let us know that medicines are reaching citizens," concluded the president of the Council of Ministers.
