Social Healthcare in Peru, advances at its cancer center including telemedicine services

EsSalud opens the Preventive Cancer Center, which includes telemedicine services for rightholders.

The Social Healthcare of Peru (EsSalud) strengthened its health services by starting activities at the first Preventive Cancer Center located in the Miraflores district of Lima. Among the functions of this center are the realization of diagnoses, control and treatment of cancer patients.

In addition to services for timely diagnosis through high-tech equipment such as x-rays, mammography, densitometry, ultrasound, this center will have oncology telemedicine services. Through this, policyholders will be able to access remote consultations through the EsSalud Telemedicine system.

Since March of this year, with an increase in COVID-19 cases, EsSalud has started a strategy to provide remote consultations to cancer patients, and not expose them to contagion when attending hospital visits. Cancer patients are part of the COVID-19 risk groups in this health emergency.

Following this, the Preventive Cancer Center, an exclusive center for patients with this type of disease, avoids risks for patients and health workers. However, the teleconsultas project remains in place to avoid crowds and remote consultations for those living in remote areas.

In addition, as part of digital services, cancer patients can receive their medicines through Farmacia Delivery, home delivery service to facilitate the distribution of treatments.
