Telecare strategy detected more than 3 thousand suspected cases of COVID-19 in Bolivia

The program "Your doctor online" managed to detect more than 3,000 suspected cases of COVID-19 through telephone calls in the first six months of the year.

"Your doctor online" is a strategy for detecting cases of COVID-19 through a call center, which was relaunched in January of this year and to date has made 28,571 phone calls.

Through the relaunch of the strategy, it was possible to detect 3,331 patients with a suspected pre-diagnosis of COVID-19. After being detected, the patients received telehealth care and received follow-up to know the progress of their symptoms or rule out the case.

The objective of the center is "to be able to attract patients who have symptoms of COVID-19 and at the same time provide guidance to the population," said Luisa Rivera, head of the Attention Center.

“Once we capture the possible suspected cases, what we do is refer them to a telehealth doctor who is in charge of making a daily follow-up teleconsultation for seven, 14 or 21 days according to the need of each patient. . During this period we try to ensure that the patient's health does not become complicated and, in the event that we have signs of aggravation, then we contact the Headquarters (Departmental Health Services) for the patient's transfer, "explained Rivera.

On the other hand, participating medical specialists are part of the Juana Azurduy, Intercultural Community Family Health (Safci) and the National Health Program programs. In addition, general practitioners also participate to complement the service.
