Uruguay launches program for the implementation of Telehealth tools with the support of the IDB and Japan

The "Program to Support the Implementation of Telehealth Tools in Uruguay" was made possible thanks to a contribution of USD 500,000 from the Japanese Special Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)

The Japanese Ambassador to Uruguay, representatives of the IDB, the Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (AGESIC), and the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) were present at the program presentation event. , among others.

This cooperation program aims to promote telehealth in Uruguay, as a tool for prevention and care of chronic diseases. As well as to improve the management of non-ambulatory medical emergencies.

from the middle of the year, this collaboration had been announced by the ASSE and the Embassy of Japan. One of the previous actions consisted of the donation of equipment to promote the implementation of telemedicine in rural areas of Uruguay. Similarly, on that occasion it was explained that the non-reimbursable funds would be administered by the IDB.

The executive director of AGESIC, Hebert Paguas, thanked Japan for its contribution to carry out this new program and explained that it is necessary for Uruguay to continue with the process of digital transformation through tools such as Telemedicine.

Finally, Leonardo Cipriani, president of the ASSE, highlighted the importance of the Support Program for the implementation of Telehealth tools, so that health services reach the most remote communities in Uruguay.
