Lambayeque region in Peru invests in telemedicine services

The Lambayeque Regional Government acquired new equipment to strengthen telemedicine services in around 30 health establishments.

The Referential Hospital of Ferreñafe, together with 28 other first-level health establishments, received new equipment for the exercise of telemedicine, by the Government of Lambayeque.

Thanks to an investment of more than 2 million soles (around USD 526,000), the regional government seeks to strengthen telemedicine services and promote teleconsultations and teleinterconsultations. In this way, patients will be able to receive specialized care from health centers near their towns, by connecting with specialists from the Ferreñafe Reference Hospital.

The acquired equipment includes televisions, teleconference systems, laptops, cameras, printers, scanners, furniture, among others, which seek to promote the use of teleconsultations in selected health facilities.

“As of July 2020, the teleinterconsultation service was implemented, starting with 5 to 6 monthly visits for each establishment. From 2021, they increased to more than 12 and for this year; a goal of 60 visits per month has been established for each establishment”, explained Dr. Vanessa Siapo, head of Telehealth of the Regional Health Management.

On the other hand, last year the Ministry of Health (Minsa) recognized the Toribia Castro health center belonging to the Lambayeque region after exceeding the monthly goal of remote care, so the current goal of 60 monthly care is fair. according to the investment made.
