New wearable to measure blood pressure obtains approval from the FDA

The wearable developed by the LiveMetric company, obtained authorization from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to be implemented in clinical settings.

The constant measurement of blood pressure is an important factor for early detection of cardiovascular diseases. Currently, there are various ambulatory monitoring devices for this variable, which allow precise measurements to be made to timely find disease risk factors. In addition, it facilitates measurements by simplifying conventional measurement tasks.

LiveOne, LiveMetric's mobile wrist-worn device that analyzes radial artery pressure, via an algorithm, recently received 510(k) clearance from the FDA. This authorization allows LiveOne to be used to measure the blood pressure of people over the age of 27 in clinical settings.

This FDA decision is supported by a study that showed the use of LiveOne in 34 patients with favorable results. In this way, the authors demonstrated that the device is equivalent to continuous blood pressure monitors used in health care settings. For this reason, the study also highlighted the portability of the device and its discreet design.

Finally, the company wants its device to be used in clinical settings that have patients with high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases.
