The 12-page report takes a tour of the advances in digital transformation, personalized care and the current role of doctors and patients.
Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, (HIMSS), is a non-profit organization specialized in promoting and improving the quality and safety of medical care through information systems. In this sense, HIMSS is one of the most important organizations in relation to digital transformation and digitization processes in health systems.
In their 2022 report, the current state of medical care highlights the acceleration of these processes due to the pandemic and the adoption of new technologies and care models.
The study was conducted between November and December 2021 and included the participation of 359 physicians, 1,600 patients, 273 health system leaders, and 2,145 participating organizations from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.
One of the first data that the report shows is that 84% of doctors say that their organizations or institutions require them to use digital health tools. Therefore, digital transformation is an issue that is on the agenda of most service provider institutions and their executive levels.
Regarding personalized attention, the 73% of the United States organizations are in an initial stage for the implementation of this type of attention. However, the 36% of international organizations are already implementing these strategies.
On the other hand, the report shows the fundamental role that doctors have taken in digitization and what they expect from it. For example, the 55% of doctors in the United States, a successful digital transformation is when it adjusts to the needs of employees, that is, their digital skills, workflow, workload, among others; Likewise, the 56% considers that it is the one that adjusts to the patient's needs, such as age, health conditions, location, digital skills and more.
In the case of patients, the report indicates that most patients do not feel adequately supported by the service provider. And hardly the 25% agrees that they receive personalized attention. In this sense, Lauren Goodman, director of market intelligence at HIMSS, explains that it is an opportunity for service providers to support their patients and develop new health care models that offer digital solutions.
