Government of Ecuador presents Digital Transformation Agenda that includes the health sector

The Ministry of Telecommunications (Mintel) of Ecuador presented the Digital Transformation Agenda 2022-2025.

The development of the digital transformation agenda was prepared in conjunction with the public, private and academic sectors, in order to promote digital tools in each of the sectors. The agenda seeks to achieve various specific objectives such as promoting the deployment of technological infrastructure throughout Ecuador and promoting the use and adoption of ICT and digital culture.

The agenda is made up of seven lines of work: digital infrastructure, culture and digital inclusion, digital economy, emerging technologies for sustainable development, digital government, interoperability and data processing, and security and trust.

In this sense, the digital agenda presented by Mintel includes specific lines of action on Digital Health. For example, improve the connectivity of medical establishments, adopt and implement the single digital medical record, strengthen the use of telemedicine and increase access to information.

José Ruales, Minister of Public Health, explained that the technological infrastructure, interoperability and data processing under security standards and regulations will also be strengthened. This will encourage research and innovation within the legal regulations for the protection of personal data.

Other aspects that are part of the digital agenda is the digitization of government procedures, which could also be transferred to the health sector, avoiding lines and long waits to obtain medical attention.
