The teletriage program for COVID-19 of the Telehealth Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) received the ConectaRSE award
UNMSM's Telehealth Unit began operating its teletriage project during the first weeks of March, following the arrival of the first CASES of COVID-19 in Peru. This was the first stage, and ended in April, however, the second stage began in July and continues for the time being.
As of the first week of October, the Telehealth unit had made 10,000 telephone assistance to provide medical care on COVID-19. In addition, 25% of people who were contacted were classified as suspicious cases. Which gave greater security and seriousness to the processes and methods used for this "teletriage".
Leonardo Rojas, coordinator of UNMSM's Telehealth Unit, stressed the importance of the volunteers who supported the project. “Volunteers were health science students in recent years. Initially 300 inmates from San Marcos and some private universities in Lima participated.”
The Competition was attended by 175 projects of which 30 finalists from seven categories were selected: Health, Education, Environment, Women Entrepreneurs, Economic-Productive, Local-Regional State and National State.
Finally, eight projects were awarded, one from each category and two from the health category. The other health project was Comando Matico-COVID 19 from Ucayali, an indigenous youth project for the treatment of COVID-19 symptoms as a fever, through medicinal plants. The winners received financial support of 10,000 soles (over $2,700 USD).
