The project aims to strengthen the professional capacities of professors and health workers in the nursing area across the country.
This is an educational proposal focused on strengthening competencies related to sexual and reproductive health, specifically aimed at health personnel in the nursing area. The project presented by Telesalud University of Caldas and the Colombian Association of Nursing Schools and Faculties was chosen by the United Nations Fund for Population for its implementation in Colombian municipalities. In June of this year, it will be launched nationwide.
Esteban Granada Aguirre, Director of Telesalud University of Caldas explained that the objective of the project is to strengthen professional knowledge about sexual and reproductive health issues in nursing students and teachers in different municipalities throughout the country, with emphasis on municipalities with development programs with a territorial approach.
Granada referred to the project as: "a challenge of incalculable social impact throughout the national territory, benefiting the most vulnerable populations, reaching the most distant regions of our country and as always seeking to make responsible use of technology to continue impacting in a positive way the quality of life of our population throughout the Colombian territory".
Marcela Tabares de Caldas, Telemedicine Leader of Telesalud, explained that the proposal met the expectations of the international organization. She also highlighted the importance of virtual education: "With this project through massive virtual education we will reach every corner of Colombia bringing the best training on this subject and we know that it will have a great impact on sexual and reproductive health in the country", she mentioned.
The distance education modules on sexual education and reproductive health have already begun to be developed within Telesalud University of Caldas. They will include topics such as care for victims of sexual violence, sexual and reproductive rights, comprehensive care of pregnancy and childbirth, among other topics, from the perspective of rights, gender, equality and multiculturalism.
