Health services in 15 municipalities in Bolivia to add telemedicine services

The benefited hospitals include the Hospital Japonés, which has a Telemedicine program for remote medical consultations, connected to 18 other primary medical centers.

The Bolivian Ministry of Health announced that it will expand the coverage of virtual medical consultation services in 15 provinces of the department of Santa Cruz, the department with the largest population in Bolivia.

Deysi Surriabe, director of the Telemedicine program of the Japanese Hospital, explained that: "Patients will be able to access specialized consultations for this period of referral and counter-referral pandemic. With this mechanism, people will not have to wait in queues or wait for days for a consultation, which will now be directed from their nearest referral center to the Hospital Japonés".

Bolivia is divided into nine departments, which in turn have a total of 112 provinces divided into 339 municipalities, all of which are registered in the Telehealth System. The department of Santa Cruz has three hospitals specialized in providing this type of remote services: the Plan Tres Mil Hospital, the San Juan de Dios Hospital and the previously mentioned Hospital Japonés.

The National Telehealth Program is an initiative proposed by the National Government for the incorporation of telehealth technologies throughout the country and other tools that promote access to health regardless of geographical barriers.
