Peru enables virtual platform to help patients with severe mental disorders to get vaccinated

The National Institute of Mental Health (INSM), developed and implemented a web platform for the management of vaccination against COVID-19 for people diagnosed with severe mental disorder (SMD).

The Peruvian Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that the INSM has implemented the VacuMental platform, to facilitate the process of vaccination against COVID-19 for people with a diagnosis of TMG.

Dr. Humberto Castillo Martell, general director of the INSM explained that the platform is intended to speed up the vaccination process for this vulnerable population in order to reduce the risk of exposure during waiting lines.

The platform offers detailed information to verify if the patient can apply for an early vaccination according to the protocols established by the Minsa. Thus, through VacuMental, an instant triage can be performed by entering the patient's identification number and requesting an appointment to receive the first or only dose of the vaccine, as the case may be.

In addition, the Complete Triage option has been enabled, designed for patients who are not registered in the INSM registry, but who have been diagnosed with TMG by other intuitions such as EsSalud, Armed Forces and Police Health Services, EPS, Non-Governmental Organizations, clinics or private offices.

By filling out the form, the patient will access communication with a TeleHealth agent, who will communicate by instant messaging and will indicate to the patient his or her vaccination date and time.

As of the end of May, approximately 3.93 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Peru and 1.19 million people have completed their vaccination schedule, representing 3.7% of the total population.
