Facebook updates the COVID-19 information center in its applications

The technology and social media company announced the launch of a campaign to help 50 million people get a COVID-19 vaccine.

On March 15, Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of a global campaign that intends to bring 50 million people closer to vaccination against COVID-19. In the information published by the CEO of Facebook, it is explained that currently 2 billion people connected to social platforms belonging to Facebook, can find information from local and national authorities about COVID-19.

However, the main feature of the announcement includes the creation and implementation of a tool in the COVID Information Center, which will show users in the United States when and where they can get vaccinated. This tool is located within the Facebook app, on a button in the News Feed and is powered by VaccineFinder created by Boston Children's Hospital, which has also been used by Google and Apple. Additionally, the Information Center will be added to Instagram.

On the other hand, Zuckerberg mentioned that they are working with health authorities and governments so that through WhatsApp chatbots they can provide support to people to register for vaccination processes. According to Facebook, more than 3 billion messages related to COVID have been sent by governments, NGOs and international organizations to citizens through WhatsApp chatbots, so they are confident in the usefulness and reach of these tools.

Another important point to which Facebook has given special attention has to do with fake news around the pandemic that circulate on the Internet and specifically on its platforms.
