On April 15, the virtual event #BHHSummit Iberoamerica was held, it was organized by Barcelona Healthhub, a Catalan association dedicated to the promotion of innovations in Digital Health and its introduction to the public and private sectors.
The first edition of the #BHHSummit Iberoamerica was performed as a hybrid event from the facilities of the Barcelona Health Hub, making connections with speakers in different places in Spain and Latin America.
The event received the attendance of more than 800 experts in Digital Health topics, of which 25 participated as panelists in the presentations. The contents were divided into two panels, the Ecosystems Panel and the Telemedicine Panel.
Dr. Homero Rivas, a Mexican-American surgeon and expert in Digital Health, who has also provided advice to emerging companies in this area, participated with his topic Is Latin America the most fertile place for Innovation in Digital Health?
Dr. Rivas explained some of the arguments that in his opinion could facilitate Digital Health innovation in Latin America:
- The 46 countries with a common language (more than 420 million people).
- Trained personnel for software development.
- Lower investment costs.
- Established technology clusters.
- Increased use of digital media.
"There are great opportunities to enter the area of Digital Health in Latin America, we have to conceptualize where we are, Latin America is a huge continent, entrepreneurs must define their geographic market", explained the specialist, on innovation in Digital Health.
"We have practically the same use of networks as in other parts of the world, this means that we are ready to do the same", explained Rivas on the adoption and adaptation to social media and digital media in recent years, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic.
