In late March the Mexican Social Security Institute enabled CLIMSS, a platform with online courses for rightsholders and the general public.
CLIMSS (Massive Online Courses of IMSS) is the name of the new platform, which is focused on promoting new online education strategies, and according to IMSS data has the capacity to support one million people.
Cynthia Rosas Magallanes, head of the Training Division of IMSS, reported that the platform has a very positive room for improvement, and the goal is to offer coverage to 60 million people through ICT.
Rosas Magallanes also explained that each course has a different duration, ranging from 10 to 40 hours. "As they are automated courses, management, tracking and feedback is given through the platform and you have a technical support team that responds to technological problems that participants might have," she explained.
The platform began by offering seven courses on general topics and a course called "All Against the Coronavirus" that after the emergency by COVID-19 was updated and divided into three parts. The three new courses are focused on disease prevention, the care of older adults and actions against the novel coronavirus at home.
The platform currently has 10 courses for the at the general public which are listed below:
- All about COVID-19 prevention
- COVID-19 Home Action Plan
- Care for older adults before COVID-19
- Preparing for retirement
- Caregivers of the older adult population
- Taking control of your pregnancy
- Taking care of your heart: course for hypertensive people
- Oral health in diabetes
- Everything about safe mobility
- The ABC of Obesity
As for the health professional specialized course, there are the following ones: COVID-19 disease, ICU management of patients with COVID-19, and two courses in care and integral child development in IMSS nurseries: Pedagogical actions in nursery and the role of nurseries in integral child development.
In addition, the head of the Training Division of IMSS said that some of these courses are expected to have academic endorsements later this year.
Currently they are working on courses that are supposed to be available before the end of the first half of the year, which are: Lifestyles and Diabetes, SaludableMENTE: taking care of your mental health, Health at Work in IMSS and Early Child Development I and II.
To register you need to access the CLIMSS portal (http://climss.imss.gob.mx/) and register by filling out the form. At the end of a course, the portal activates an option to download an end of course certificate.
