In Peru, the electronic medical record (EHR) is available for internet access 24 hours a day in the more than 400 attention centers of the Social Health Insurance of Peru (EsSalud).
EsSalud has generated more than 14 million EHRs, since it indicated the digitization process. This has streamlined the tasks for nearly 20,000 health professionals and administrative personnel in the care of policyholders nationwide.
In addition, Mario Carhuapoma Yance, executive president of EsSalud, in a meeting with the Ministry of Health, the Armed Forces and the National Police, announced that they will work together to create and implement a standardized and automated system for the management of HCE.
The strategy proposes the collaboration and exchange of information technologies between institutions to promote the development of training, investment and infrastructure plans.
The EHR contains information such as patient appointments, medical history of outpatient care, hospitalization, emergencies or surgeries, diagnoses, prescriptions, treatments and more. This way, in emergencies, doctors and hospital staff have the patient's EHR to make informed decisions.
"With this system, EsSalud eliminated problems of loss of test results, reduced the time to complete risk reports, allowed to schedule surgeries and reduced trips to Lima made by patients for referrals," explained Carhuapoma.
The application of telemedicine tools is also of paramount importance to carry out the strategy, since it allowed doctors, nurses, midwives, technologists, as well as technical and administrative support staff, to access the EHRs from the smallest health facilities. to the largest hospitals in Lima.
