The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) received the World Procurement Award for Digital Impact.
PAHO's Procurement and Supply Management team received the Global Procurement Award for Digital Impact, thanks to the implementation of technologies carried out in response to the pandemic. PAHO was able to deploy new technologies involving automation and robotics processes, which were key to responding to the global health emergency.
One of the main strategies developed by the Procurement and Supply Management team was Max and Mia, two automated bots that fill out shipping notification documents and purchase orders. These types of technologies made it possible to speed up processes and increase PAHO's capacity to send health resources to countries in need, and thus take advantage of workers in other more strategic activities.
“This recognition inspires us to continue providing innovative and efficient support to Member States,” said PAHO Procurement Director Daniel Rodríguez. Rodríguez explained that PAHO has the capacity to collaborate in challenging environments such as the pandemic.
Thanks to the implementation of Max and Mia, PAHO was able to efficiently continue the processes of sending resources in the face of the increase in demand for health supplies and also develop strategies to obtain new vaccines and essential medicines.
In this way, the digitalization process in PAHO not only responds to aspects of health information systems, promotion of electronic records, but also to logistics issues for collaboration with Member States.
