In March 2022, the Pan American Health Organization organized a visit to Honduras to strengthen the technological infrastructure in two health regions of Honduras.
In Honduras, the Gracias a Dios health region, the Puerto Lempira Hospital and the Isla de la Bahía health region received an evaluation and diagnosis of their telecommunications infrastructure to develop strategies for the installation of cabling, which strengthens the tasks epidemiological surveillance.
Dr. Rosa Elena Mejía, Dr. Rodolfo Peña and Ing. Wolfrán Silva, on a PAHO mission, were transferred to the island of Roatán in Honduras, to advance with strategies for strengthening information technology infrastructure .
Dr. Peña, who works as a Communicable Diseases Advisor for PAHO/WHO, delivered donations of computer equipment to the health authorities of the Bay Islands region.
These actions are part of the American Rescue Plan, promoted by the United States Agency for International Development, which aims to strengthen and replace the information and communication technology infrastructure in ten hospitals in priority regions determined by the US government. .
