In Mexico there is still no specific law in charge of regulating remote medical care, telemedicine or health technologies. For this reason, several proposals have been presented in the Senate of the Republic.
After the impact of the pandemic on the demand for telemedicine services and remote medical care, the Senate of the Republic began working on initiatives that would promote this type of solutions and tools.
In September 2020, Senator Alejandra Noemí Reynoso Sánchez presented a proposal that requires the Federal Health Secretariat to report on the actions carried out by the National Center for Technological Excellence in Health (CENETEC), and thus make known the progress of telemedicine in Mexico.
For January of this year, Reynoso Sánchez presented a report on the actions of CENETEC and highlighted the importance of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he explained that, to design legal instruments in favor of telemedicine, and to promote public policies on the subject, it is necessary to know the current panorama of this in Mexico.
Subsequently, it presented a draft decree that reforms and adds various provisions of the General Health Law, in terms of telehealth and telemedicine, which you can consult at the following link: https://www.senado.gob.mx/64/gaceta_comision_permanente/documento/114946. The initiative was turned over to the Senate Health Commission.
