IMSS and Facebook collaborate to promote blood donation

The Blood Bank Network, of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), may request donors through the Facebook application in Mexico.

Through the Blood Donations section in the Facebook application, the IMSS will be able to request donations for its 152 Blood Banks throughout the country. Facebook allows users to receive notifications about blood donation centers near their location.

In addition to the IMSS banks, Facebook has information on another 230 donation centers within its section in the application, these are in the states of Baja California, Chihuahua, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Morelos, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo , Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Sonora and Veracruz.

The general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, called on the population to join this initiative: “Saving lives runs in the blood, that is why we invite you to join this noble cause that can help improve the health of patients. and save lives,” he explained.

On the other hand, Salomón Woldenberg, manager of Public Policies at Facebook for Mexico, explained that in Mexico more than a million people are registered in the Facebook tool and actively receive notifications. "The collaboration with the IMSS will make it possible for more people in Mexico to be blood donors and significantly help the well-being of their communities," he said.

Currently this Facebook tool is working in 37 countries, with more than 100 million people registered. The tool has worked as an important promoter of blood donations in various countries such as Brazil, the United States and India, especially during the pandemic, and the same is expected to happen in Mexico. "The continued expansion of this effort is a clear example of how the reach and scale of Facebook's technology can contribute in this very delicate moment, through tools that connect donors and health centers in a relevant way," explained Woldenberg.

If you are between 18 and 65 years old and want to be part of the program, you can voluntarily enroll and receive notifications through Facebook. Enter the following link: https://www.facebook.com/blooddonations
