The Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Hospital has announced the creation of the Division of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
Recently, the non-profit Hospital located in Los Angeles announced the establishment of a new division that will explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be applied in medicine. In this way, the division will seek the development and search for new solutions to the modern needs of medical care.
Cedars-Sinai explained in a statement that this new division will explore the applications of AI in medicine and the resolution of complex medical problems that improve clinical care. "By using applied artificial intelligence, we can address existing gaps in the mechanisms, diagnosis, and therapy of major human diseases that affect large populations," said Paul Noble, professor of medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine, one of the creators of this new division.
In the past, Cedars-Sinai has developed various initiatives that promote implementation of AI in health. Like the recent study showing an AI model for diagnosing heart disease.
The new division will be led by Dr. Sumeet Chugh, an expert in heart health and data science. “Dr. Chugh has extensive experience using artificial intelligence to solve clinical problems in sudden cardiac arrest, one of our most challenging conditions,” said Shlomo Melmed, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Cedars-Sinai School of Medicine.
Initially, the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Division will focus on tools that improve cardiac imaging, cardiovascular accidents, COVID-19 patient care, and clinical genetics.
