The Guatemalan Ministry of Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) has begun training thousands of health professionals in teleconsultation, with an emphasis on maternal health and COVID-19.

The Government of Guatemala, through organizations such as the Tula Salud Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the MSPAS National Reproductive Health Program, began training more than 5,000 health professionals in maternal care, teleconsultation and COVID-19.
The objective of these training courses is for health personnel to have the necessary skills to carry out quality remote consultations, sensitive to intercultural and gender issues. Likewise, professionals are expected to have the ideal tools to deal with obstetric emergencies.
The training progresses in two phases, divided into virtual courses and practical activities. During the first phase, 270 workers were trained, of which some will be part of the second phase to train more professionals.
The departments benefited during the first phase were: Chiquimula, Quiché, Totonicapán, San Marcos, Huehuetenango, Sololá and Alta Verapaz.
