The Government of Argentina held a conference to strengthen the management of health systems and the generation of strategies in data science, artificial intelligence and data governance models in the health sector.
The "Digital Transformation in Health Day: exchange on strategies to strengthen health information systems and emerging challenges", aimed to strengthen the resources available in the country, and generate new strategies to bring the tools closer to those responsible for health information management systems, at the national and provincial levels.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Sadosky Foundation. It is proposed that this type of event on digital transformation will be repeated during 2022.
The undersecretary for Science, Technology and Innovation Policies, Cecilia Sleiman, explained the importance of the joint work between the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Health “working together with the Ministry of Health has always been essential and very fruitful. This training marks another step along that path and is also a milestone in the process of digital transformation of health services, one of the missions established in the National Challenge called Accessible, Equitable and Quality Health, within the framework of the National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation 2030”.
In this sense, the national director of Information Systems of the Health portfolio, Cintia Speranza, presented the digital transformation strategy for inclusion, whose axes are the promotion of the Electronic Medical Record (EHR) and its implementation in medical centers. of attention. The progress of the EHR in Argentina has been remarkable during the last two years, since as of May 2021, more than 1,100 establishments were registered that had this tool, an increase of 53% compared to 2019.
On the other hand, Speranza highlighted the importance of the creation of integrated digital agendas, the implementation of the interoperable digital recipe, data governance and cybersecurity, and the training of professionals for digital transformation.
Fernando Peirano, president of the National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development and Innovation, said the following about the possibilities of improving access to health systems: "We understand that science and technology allow expanding health in Argentina, improve its quality and access, but it is also an opportunity to redefine the systems of which we are part, because the heart of the systems is us, the people. We have to think about the regulation, the use, the applications, the governance of this entire system. That is the ultimate challenge of this experience.” In addition, he stressed that it is about building sovereignty in health and technology and having control of the direction of technological change.
