European Fund allocates more than 153 million euros to Spain for the development of Digital Health

The Government of Spain is committed to digitization and innovation in the investments of its public health services by 2022.

The Spanish National Health System (SNS) will allocate 180 million euros for the development of the National Digital Health Strategy, of which 153 million correspond to European funds.

The strategy consists of three execution models to develop Digital Health from the Ministry of Health or in collaboration with the autonomous communities.

The first model contemplates an investment of 96.15 million euros, this strategy is focused on strengthening digital services in areas such as vaccination, diagnostic tests, registration of medical professionals, among others. As well as the control of medication and drug consumption through an Artificial Intelligence system.

For the second model, the investment will be 70 million euros, which will come entirely from European funds. The purpose of this model is the development of a Digital Health Center, to improve remote care through telemedicine and teleconsultations. The projects in this model will be presented by the autonomous communities and evaluated by the Digital Health Commission of the Interterritorial Council.

For the third and last model, the investment consists of 14 million euros, destined especially for the technological equipment of the State Center for Public Health of the SNS.

In addition, it has also been reported that the General Secretariat of Digital Health, Information and Innovation of the National Health System will receive 26.8 million euros from the General State Budgets (PGE), which represents an increase of 88.6% with respect to last year.

Other projects of the digitization of the SNS through the Digital Health strategy, is the implementation of the health card, the shared digital medical record and improving the MIR vacancy selection platform.
