The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced the investment of 14.8 million reais, for the digitalization of the Basic Health Units (UBS).
The strategy of the Ministry of Health seeks to expand the digitalization and adoption of computer techniques in the services of the UBS belonging to the Unified Health System, located in remote areas of 326 municipalities in the country. The objective of the strategy is to expand remote care services such as telemedicine and teleconsultations. In this way, they seek to adopt digital tools such as electronic medical records and internet connection in establishments.
Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga will sign an ordinance that regulates the provision of services through telemedicine. In this sense, the implementation of this strategy responds to the approval of the law that regulates telehealth recently approved in the senate. Telehealth is a valid practice in all states and territories of Brazil, so no local or state jurisdiction can interfere in the adoption of this modality.
Likewise, despite the fact that telemedicine had only been approved for exceptional use due to the pandemic, two years later it already has sufficient legal bases for its legal implementation and execution.
The resources that will be used for the digitization strategy, as well as their distribution, will be announced on June 2. In this way, the minister recognized the progress made in telemedicine, and the benefits of adopting technology for remote care of the population.
