The World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 Research Database has been awarded the “Choice” award by the American Library Association (ALA)
The WHO COVID-19 Research Database, of the WHO was awarded by the ALA, which recognized its quality and scope. This database has access from more than 200 countries and more than 7 thousand active researchers every day. Currently the WHO COVID-19 Research Database, has more than 430 thousand documents available, of which the 80% are complete.
In this sense, the WHO recognized all the people who participate in the constant updating of the database. In a letter addressed to the researchers, doctors and staff that keep the base running, the WHO celebrated their leadership in generating knowledge and scientific evidence that facilitates analysis and decision-making at the national, regional and global levels.
The database was launched in 2021, thanks to a partnership between the Latin American and Caribbean Center for Health Sciences Information (BIREME), the Pan American Health Organization and the WHO. The database is updated daily, and the WHO team is responsible for data preservation, coordinating a global network of volunteers and database management experts.
For its part, BIREME is responsible for developing products and services that facilitate the work of researchers, health personnel and decision makers. Among them the Showcase of Knowledge on COVID-19, the Showcase of Knowledge on Nursing and COVID-19, the Showcase of Knowledge on the Natural History of COVID-19; the Evidence Maps on integrative practices in the clinical management of COVID-19 symptoms; and the app e-BlueInfo, an application designed for medical staff of primary care centers with updated information on each country.
Likewise, Mark Cummings, editor of the ALA, recognized the great work done with the database and the significance of its contribution to the field and the special treatment of information.
