The National Center for Health Information Systems (CENS) is the body in charge of verifying compliance with security standards and data protection of telemedicine platforms.
The Seal of Quality for the evaluation of telemedicine software was developed by the CENS. Presented in January 2021, the purpose of the seal is to evaluate and measure, in a reproducible and standardized manner, the technical and clinical quality of a software product used to provide telemedicine services.
This quality model consists of two dimensions, technical and clinical, the first is based on ISO 25010, for the description and evaluation of software quality, which in this case correspond to characteristics of reliability, usability, security and compatibility. .
Currently more than ten telemedicine platforms used in Chile have undergone a test to assess their quality. In general, the results have determined that the development of telemedicine platforms in Chile, responds to the standards and security requirements required by the CENS.
After the evaluation, the CENS asks the companies and developers to correct the problems found or strengthen the security processes, to finally receive the security seal.
So far, the CENS has only certified six companies with the seal of quality and ten are still in the evaluation process. Where they must comply with at least 75% of the requirements in terms of security and data protection.
“This evaluation has shown us that not all platforms comply with this security to the level that one would like for a platform that is transmitting health data. So in that sense, people should feel much calmer if they are doing a telemedicine consultation on a platform certified by CENS. This certification will be fully enforceable once the health alert ends," said the executive director of the National Research Agency, one of the agencies authorized to deliver the certification.
