Health authorities in Uruguay set challenges in Digital Health for 2021

In a session of remote conferences, health authorities as well as academic institutions presented the projects of Salud.uy for 2021 a nd the strategies to be implemented

In mid-December, a series of conferences were held on the advances and discussions for the Digital Health strategies, which the health authorities in Uruguay will implement in 2021.

At one of the meetings, the executive director of the Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic), Hebert Paguas, the director of Health, Pablo Orefice, the general director of the National Health Board of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), Luis González Machado, and Omar Paganini, minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, were present.

González, expressed the importance of having an efficient health system, and equitable access to the population. Regarding the pandemic, he explained that it served as an impulse for the advancement of technologies in health, and in the adoption and improvement of their use, such as telemedicine services.

In his speech, Paguas highlighted the development of digital technologies such as chatbot, or the portfolio and epidemiological information, as well as the mobile application Coronavirus UY and all its functions. He also spoke about medical assistance through telemedicine and the projects that are being implemented in the future, such as digital prescription.

Paganini explained the relevance of the Salud.uy program as the main axis of the digital ecosystem that the Uruguayan government is building in the process of digital transformation. To end the day, the speakers addressed issues on the digital health passport, as well as security and privacy in the development of mobile applications.

To finish the second day, Orefice, presented the advances of the National Electronic Health Record (HCEN), which is already in the fifth phase, that is, it is already applied in the healthcare field. At the same time, he explained the projects that Salud.uy is working on:

 

  • Deepening the use of HCEN in all health care providers
  • National Digital prescription
  • Telehealth
  • Patient summary
  • Artificial Intelligence Platforms
  • Cybersecurity in Digital Health

 

In this way Salud.uy Agesic, and the Ministry of Public Health of Uruguay, explained part of the agenda for 2021 and the future projects that will be implemented from short to long term.
