The new center run by EsSalud will have the capacity to provide nearly 100,000 remote medical consultations per month to patients across the country; it was built in just 45 days.
EsSalud, the Social Security of Peru, has a new telemedicine center that will be able to attend more than 96 thousand medical consultations per month in different medical specialties nationwide. The center has 89 virtual offices that will connect with health centers in remote areas of Peru.
Fiorella Molinelli, owner of EsSalud, reported that the services provided in the new Telemedicine Center through the EsSaludDigital project include care through Teleconsultas, Teleradiology, Specialized Telemedicine, Emergencies, TeleOrientation and care for COVID-19 and post-COVID patients.
“I firmly believe that, with the help of technology, we will bring health to the neediest areas of Peru, helping to close the health gaps that the pandemic has shown today. Those regions where there are also no specialists who can help save more life,” the official said on her Twitter account.
This new center, in addition to connecting the remote locality population with specialists, will be able to reduce waiting times in diagnostics and thus provide more effective and timely treatment for policyholders. The Center will have 20 specialties that influence oncology, pediatrics and pneumology, some of the most demanded specialties.
The center integrates programs such as the Home Care Program (PADOMI), and pediatric care programs such as PADOMI children through teleurgencies. In addition, it will also provide remote monitoring to critical unit patients and psychological and psychiatric care to patients in the Mental Health program.
This new infrastructure is unique in the country, and will allow more people to access medical specialties through remote consultations. Even at the inauguration, authorities and specialists conducted a test, offering remote care even a patient based in Abancay, capital of the department of Apurímac, a town located about 900 km from Lima, the capital of the country.
Telemedicine services are offered to insured patients, who only need to make a call on the EsSalud line to schedule an appointment in less than 24 hours. Another important feature of this new center is that it is part of the Neighboring Pharmacy program, home medicine delivery service.
With this new National Telemedicine Center, Peru renews its Digital Health system, thanks to new infrastructure and technology that will especially benefit remote populations.
