Google launches cloud-based solution to provide equitable access to vaccines COVID-19

A series of three solutions for different issues were proposed by Google Cloud to support the COVID-19 vaccination process.

COVID-19 vaccination campaigns continue to progress in different regions of the world. The availability of a significant number of vaccine options has enabled mass vaccination in urban areas around the world, in a public health campaign unprecedented in this generation.

Google, through Google Cloud, has launched the Intelligent Vaccine Impact Solution that seeks to provide technology to regional and local governments to carry out public health strategies in support of vaccination against COVID-19. This solution seeks to include important tools from vaccine information and scheduling, distribution and analysis to forecasting and modeling of COVID-19 cases.

“The Intelligent Vaccine Impact Solution helps increase vaccine availability and equitable access to those who need it, and assists governments in building awareness, confidence, and acceptance of vaccines. We designed our solution to easily integrate with existing technologies, knowing that governments will administer their vaccine distributions in unique ways,” stated Google Cloud.

The proposal involves scenario analysis on COVID-19 for better decision making. Google Cloud and its researchers developed a machine learning model that through AI and an epidemiology foundation is able to learn what-if scenarios. “Government leaders can then see how the forecasts change in response to policy changes (e.g., mask mandates, modified reopening plans, or vaccination programs). And public sector leaders can also create custom forecasts for their counties and public health organizations. The goal of this component of the solution is to help leaders make informed and effective decisions”, they explain.

The second part of the Intelligent Vaccine Impact Solutionproposal is a vaccine web portal, in an effort to address questions and alleviate public concerns about vaccination processes, vaccine types and components, as well as their effectiveness and availability.

The final part of the proposed solutions deals with conducting a sentiment analysis, for the evaluation of the sentiment of communities around vaccines. It is necessary to know what communities think about the risks and benefits of the vaccine. “Google Cloud Sentiment Analysis builds on the marketing data warehouse concept, and helps ensure anyone with a browser can read and make decisions on the data, from communications teams, to data analysts and public policymakers,” Government agents will then be able to target marketing operations to specific audiences, to provide the information they need, the most relevant and accurate.

This strategy has already been applied in states such as North Carolina in the United States “Our newest effort is to develop a process and technology to streamline accessing information for North Carolinians”, explained Sam Gibbs, deputy secretary for Technology and Operations, State of North Carolina.
