The organizers of the event were AIMed, a movement of physicians and health professionals, which seeks to promote the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector, and NHSX, the governing body responsible for promoting best practices in digital and data technology for the NHS.
On September 24, the virtual event "The NHS Lab Accelerating the safe adoption of AI" was held, which, as the name suggests, presented several projects that seek the safe acceleration of processes to implement AI in the health sector and the advances shown in recent years.
Dr. Indra Joshi, who serves as AI director and Simon Madden, director of policy and strategy both at NHSX, presented introductory work within this agency, created in April 2019. The presentation showed the results of a year's work and explained the programs that are still in full development. These programs include medical imaging projects through ecosystem regulations for health and AI services and programs to support AI initiatives.
They outlined the importance of their data strategy for health and social assistance, which has worked through empowerment and training of staff in the application of technologies.
On the other hand, they explained the AI Virtual Hub project, an NHS space created around AI. It is a collaborative platform for AI specialists to share their experiences and also to show new ideas, possible solutions to problems of others in the community.
Finally, in his talk, there was talk about the importance of security in the adoption of such technologies. The rapporteurs considered that ethical management of the implementation of technologies is not only a duty on the part of the bodies that regulate these processes, but also help to improve where the results are headed.
