Amazon makes new investment in telehealth

Amazon will make a new investment in telehealth and in the health sector in general as soon as the acquisition of One Medical is completed.

The organization currently has 182 establishments where it can offer telehealth services and face-to-face care, and is also located in 25 US states.

Amazon plans to invest 4 billion dollars in the purchase of shares of this company, to continue its expansion in the health sector. It should be noted that Amazon's foray into the health sector has been achieved mainly through digital means, for example, through the use of its Amazon Web Services platforms, Amazon Care or the purchase of the online pharmacy PillPack, four years ago. years.

On the other hand, One Medical has an important user base, since until May 2022, they had registered more than 760 thousand patients. Users can access primary care services through a mobile application 24 hours a day, every day of the week. In addition, they can schedule remote or face-to-face appointments, up to a day before.

“There is an immense opportunity to make the healthcare experience more accessible, affordable and even enjoyable for patients, providers and payers,” Amir Dan Rubin, CEO of One Medical, wrote in a statement.

Likewise, Neil Lindsay Vice President of Amazon Health Services explained that "We believe that medical care is high on the list of experiences that need to be reinvented."

However, the acquisition of the company by Amazon still requires the approval of the company's shareholders. If closed, it would be the largest acquisition by Amazon in terms of health care services.
