Telemedicine as support for the Venezuelan health system

In Venezuela, the adoption of telemedicine has accelerated due to the pandemic, however, it has significant challenges such as the lack of internet access among the population.

Telemedicine in Venezuela continues its growth process, which during the pandemic has become more relevant, however, there are conditions that prevent its maximum use such as the lack of internet access points for the population.

Venezuelan physician Juan Carlos Méndez considers that platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegram are leveraged by Venezuelan doctors and patients during the pandemic. In addition, he emphasized the importance of using digital communication channels to answer questions in a massive way.

In addition, he emphasized that, with the pandemic, patients have adapted to the platforms to follow the health measures of social estrangement and other current social circumstances that the country lives, making telemedicine a perfect choice for medical care.

Dr. Rafael Gottenger of the American Association of Venezuelan Physicians believes that, in countries such as Venezuela, the growth of Telemedicine services will depend on the access that the population has to technology. In addition, he emphasized that the population needed to adapt to telemedicine so that patients could easily connect and use devices.

Another topic to consider are the regulations of telemedicine, since they are different in each country, however, one of the most important points is to protect the user and their privacy.
