Google evaluates its latest advances in Artificial Intelligence in health

Google's health innovations are intended to improve access to equitable, quality health care globally.

During the Google Health event, "The Check Up", the American company shared advances in new research areas related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in health. At the event held in March this year, Google Health showed the most recent updates of tools that seek to facilitate medical care for patients.

For example, one of the AI projects in health, which were shown in The Check Up, was ARDA. This project supports the detection of diabetic retinopathy through smart device cameras and an algorithm that analyzes the images.

ARDA examines 350 patients daily using this technology, more than 100,000 since the project began. This technology makes access to eye exams more accessible in any region of the world.

Another of the Google Health projects that presented advances during the event was the monitoring of heart sounds through mobile devices. This innovation explores mobile devices as a heart disease monitoring tool.

Although its clinical studies are at an early stage, the purpose of this solution is to detect heart valve disorders without the need for a specialized device such as a stethoscope or ultrasound.

Google Health also presented progress on its partnership with Northwestern Medicine to apply AI tools to improve maternal health. This project is related to the use and access to ultrasounds globally, for this Google Health, seeks to implement and validate through research the use of AI support to perform ultrasounds.

Access to ultrasounds is a critical issue for healthy pregnancies. Thanks to them, problems can be identified early in pregnancy. With the support of Northwestern Medicine, Google Health, seeks to reduce barriers to access ultrasound and provide timely care to pregnant mothers.

During the rest of the event, Google reported on the company's other technological solutions, such as Fitbit, Care Studio, Health AI, Cloud, YouTube, search engine, among others.
