The event convened academics, researchers, members of health and technology-related industry, as well as specialists in the clinical area.
The Faculty of Medicine and the Telemedicine Unit of the University of Concepcion (UdeC), held the International Congress of Telemedicine, Telehealth and Digital Healthon December 6 and 7, 2019.
The conference addressed topics such as telehealth, applications and success stories in telemedicine and big data and Artificial Intelligence, and Chilean authorities recognized the progress that has been implemented in their country.
Carlos Saavedra, UdeC rector, recognized the work of the team led by Dr. Angélica Avendaño, president of the Congress and director of UdeC’s Telemedicine Unit, and noted that they have been pioneers in Chile in telemedicine issues, since they have more than 15 years working to provide medical care to patients in the region, he also highlighted the scope of the Digital Hospital project in the south of the country.
Angélica Avendaño detailed the importance of technological advances within medicine and health in order to achieve more people have access to health care.
"More than 60,000 patients have been treated in the Telemedicine Unit solving health problems in areas such as ophthalmology and dermatology, as well as having specialists in endocrinology, hematology and cardiology who from the university they have access to remotely providing care to patients living in remote populations," explained the director of UdeC's Telemedicine Unit.
