PAHO reforms the Virtual Health Library of Scientific Communication in Health

The Virtual Health Library Scientific Communication in Health is a free access platform for information and scientific evidence in health.

The Latin American and Caribbean Center for Health Sciences Information (BIREME) is the body of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in charge of promoting and improving access to information and scientific evidence in the region. Among their tasks, they are in charge of managing the Virtual Health Libraries.

In this way, BIREME has reformulated the website of the VHL Scientific Communication in Health (VHL CCS), which has content and interfaces in Spanish, English and Portuguese. This work has been designed to facilitate access to information for scientific editors, scientific journal editorial teams, reviewers, librarians, information science professionals and students.

The VHL CCS information has been arranged in different categories of information sources:

  • Thematic areas. The selection of scientific and technical literature indexed in VHL databases on the following topics: Open Access; Peer Review; Open Science; Ethics and authorship in publication; bibliometric indicators; editorial policies; Y preprints.
  • Norms and directives in scientific communication. Standards and guidelines on good health practices published by various regional organizations.
  • Courses and Training. Access links to the PAHO/WHO Virtual Campus for Public Health courses.
  • Selection criteria for scientific journals in databases. Journals indexed in regional and international databases.
  • Indexing status of scientific journals in health sciences in databases. Spreadsheet stored in Google Drive that contains the indexing status of scientific journals in health and related areas from Latin America, Portugal and Spain in the LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Journal citation reports and Scopus databases . Available for download.
  • Scientific communication blogs. The content of scientific communication blogs provides current and relevant information in the health sector.
