The Government of Uruguay, through ASSE, received medical equipment and personal protective supplies for staff from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Giovani Escalante, PAHO/WHO representative in Uruguay, Daniel Salinas Minister of Public Health and Leonardo Cipriani President of ASSE were at the meeting where PAHO delivered respirators, and medical equipment to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 in Uruguay.
ASSE, the public health service provider in Uruguay, received the donation, which will improve its telemedicine system to provide remote care to patients who require it. A total of 10 multi-parametric monitors, a portable ultrasound, 20 infrared thermometers, 54 webcams, 70 computer microphones. In addition to special equipment for COVID-19 as sample tubes and face masks.
On the other hand, the support received by the Ministry of Public Health will be used to improve the epidemiological surveillance system, as PAHO will provide 20 scholarships for epidemiological surveillance through the Latin American Center for The Human Economy (CLAEH). In addition, the Ministry of Economy and Finance will work together to recruit 50 new epidemiology specialists to monitor the development of the epidemic in Uruguay.
At the beginning of July ASSE, through Cipriani, announced that they would restructure the Hospital de Rio Braco in Cerro Largo, to strengthen their telemedicine system and promote easy access to medical specialties among the population of that town. So, this type of donations responds to the needs of the Ministry of Health for the implementation of new services and so, the people living in remote areas will access to consultations with different medical specialties.
