ISSSTE implements telemedicine services

As part of the Health Plan, the Federal Government expect to have 355 tele-consultation equipment by 2021 in the ISSSTE facilities.

The tele consultation system links health professionals, who are in first and second level clinics located in remote areas or with difficult access with specialists and sub specialists of Regional Hospitals and the Mexico National Center 20 de Noviembre (CMN).

The program helps beneficiaries living in remote areas so they can receive remote medical consultations in the 15 specialties and subspecialties available: cardiology, neurology, urology, traumatology and orthopedics, gynecology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, dermatology, otolaryngology, medical and surgical oncology, hematology, psychiatry, gastroenterology and rheumatology.

Luis Ramírez Pineda, ISSSTE director, supervised in January the re-equipment progress in the telemedicine terminal of the General Hospital "Columba Rivera Osorio" of Pachuca, Hidalgo, which aims to link doctors from the Hidalgo region in remote areas such as Mixquiahuala, Tulancingo, among others.

There is a total of 15 regional hospitals, including CMN 20 Noviembre, that will provide remote consultation services to patients in clinics and medical centers in remote communities.

Another major project of ISSSTE is Tele Teaching, which offers live streaming of academic events, conferences, clinical case exposures and even live broadcasts of high-specialty surgeries, all for teaching purposes and during out-of-reference hours.

Thanks to these modalities, doctors can offer higher quality of care, since the methodology used requires collaboration between health professionals, sharing clinical data of the patients, as well as imaging and laboratory studies. In specific cases where the patient requires higher medical care, it is necessary to transfer the patient to the Regional Hospital of his entity or to CMN 20 de Noviembre.
