Use of Digital Platforms
Fundación Carlos Slim presents at the Digital Health Forum: “MIDO – CASALUD a case of success”

Digital Health has to be considered as the new practice to follow in all health systems and services in Mexico and Latin America. With the support received by the new ICTs, the results and processes will be refined to achieve a precise, accurate and immediate quality.

Carlos Slim Foundation - represented by its General Director, Dr. Roberto Tapia-Conyer - highlighted the advances in the field of medicine that Latin America is obtaining. As part of this, he presented the MIDO – CASALUD project within the Digital Health Forum Mexico 2019 event.

The central point focused on Digital Health as a tool to transform health systems based on improvements that allow access to the entire population and break the gaps that represented a global paradigm.

That is why the digital tools made available to new technologies, are aimed at empowering the patient and updating it through digital platforms connected to the network so that it interacts with specialists and can take control of their medical condition and health status.

The objective is to go from concepts and theories, to the practice that makes the experience of these systems responsible for eradicating patient isolation a reality. For this, the government will have the purpose of supporting through public policies that open the way to the implementation of these strategies by making available a faster internet connection and other instruments that strengthen the use of these practices.

The MIDO-CASALUD smart system is defined as a robust multifunctional digital platform that provides personalized and deep attention to people through the following 6 P’s that govern it:

  1. Proactivity
  2. Prevention
  3. Prediction
  4. Customization
  5. Participation
  6. Permanence

During the presentation, Tapia-Conyer emphasized the need to understand each person as a unique case with the objective of evolving the public health service of Mexico. Not all people have identical bodily functioning and, therefore, each case must be listened to in depth so as not to miss details, because “there are no diseases, but sick people”, as detailed by the director of the Foundation.

That is why MIDO has the ability to adapt and personalize each medical treatment starting by identifying and searching for the patient without being passive. Thus, the platform will not wait for people to reach it, rather, it will offer and disseminate its programs and tools to publicize and begin universal coverage.

With their mobile applications you can detect clinical cases through questionnaires and interviews and then go to the appropriate treatment according to the specific condition of each user. Once the information is classified and transmitted to MIDO; the corresponding follow-up will be granted, through devices that use the World of things and Artificial Intelligence.

In order for these procedures to be carried out effectively, it is necessary to increase the storage capacity and network connection between robust platforms in order to generate a multi-connectivity that gives immediate immediacy in real time. Then, all the data can be hosted in the cloud and combined with each other so that their functions act accurately (an example of these activities can be found in chatbots, machines that simulate being human and interact with people to answer questions and advise ).

Expand throughout Latin America

The fundamental mission of the Carlos Slim Foundation does not only remain at the regional level, it also consists in covering all of Latin America offering references of continuous progress related to Digital Health.

That is why, the Saluddigital.comwebsite was officialized, where relevant issues around the ecosystem that offer the five essential parameters offered by Digital Health are presented:

  • Big Data: as the science that handles medical data and has Artificial Intelligence.
  • Advancement of science: combine all the scientific and technological knowledge to offer alternatives that improve the quality of health services.
  • The world of things: sensors, devices and applications that support treatments and disease detection.
  • Connected communities: mass adoption among people of mobile devices to combat a common evil.
  • Digital platforms: robust operations with immediate results.
