Peru's Ministry of Health reaches agreement with Korea International Cooperation Agency to digitize health services

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica), the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI) reached an agreement for the digitization of health services.

Koica and Peruvian government authorities agreed to implement the project: "Digitalization of the management of the Integral Health Insurance and the Telemedicine platform to improve the quality of health services for the vulnerable population in Peru", which will last for six years, approximately until December 2026. The project will have an investment of US$7 million from the South Korean government.

Koica and APCI officials met to develop a project to promote the capacity to respond to emerging and infectious diseases, as well as to improve current telemedicine systems. Koica's goal is to benefit Peru's most vulnerable populations.

"This project aims to support the improvement of the availability and accessibility of the public health service in Peru through the establishment of an integrated digitalized management system for Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and Telemedicine in the National Telehealth Network of the Ministry of Health," explained the official newspaper El Peruano.

The project promises to strengthen the processes between the SIS and the service provider institution, as well as digitizing patients' medical records and improving medical information management capacity.

The new platform will be operated in 300 health centers in Peru, benefiting more than 770,000 people directly in health centers and more than 10 million people through telemedicine consultations via the already consolidated National Telehealth Network and its more than 2,500 connected health centers and clinics.
