University in Brazil publishes study on the importance of telemedicine in cancer patients

As part of the SEMPESq event held in November in Brazil by the Tiradentes University Center, a study on the promotion of health in the cancer patient was released

Telemedicine in the promotion of the health of the cancer patient, is titled the research report published by the Tiradentes University Center. In this study they carried out an integrative bibliographic review without linguistic restriction of literature published in the last five years on the topics "Telemedicine" and "health promotion".

Researchers defined telemedicine as "the provision of remote healthcare, using telecommunications tools. The use of interactive audiovisual and data communication methodologies, with the aim of assistance, allows to offer health services anytime, anywhere. A promising strategy to extend these services to disadvantaged populations, in order to maintain long-term changes in health behaviors."

The objective of this review was to identify the benefits of telemedicine to promote the health of cancer patients. Following the documentary review, the titles and content of seven specific articles were analyzed. The research results showed a trend with a focus on personalized support for cancer patients. There are even technologies such as Connected Health that have been used to treat cancer in different areas, such as detection, treatment, aftertreatment and follow-up to survivors.

In addition, other studies found the effectiveness of a digital health tool for monitoring physical activity, improving the physical condition of cancer survivors in addition to lowering their blood pressure.

"Telemedicine is part of public health, as it acts in prevention and promotion. The benefits of it include a higher quality of life in cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy, improving independence and self-care. In addition, it can be used to reduce travel load and provide access to services after normal business hours. It is useful for detecting the cumulative impact of adverse effects of chemotherapy," the authors concluded.
