Use of Digital Platforms
Argentina invests in development and implementation of Electronic Health Record services

Argentina is increasingly advancing the adoption of digital platforms that strengthen medical services. Together with some private sector companies, they have worked together to help the procedures -such as electronic health record (EHR)- cover the entire population.

Argentina's Ministry of Health is reinforcing the way its public health system obtains the technological resources to implement its Digital Health tools through investments that are carried out with private sector support.

The central aspect is to complement the digital transformation that is being carried out within the institutions dedicated to health care, for this tender are being carried out with the active participation of private sector companies that allocate resources to the modernization and implementation of new schemes.

Of the 6 items tendered as part of theProject for accessible and inclusive healthfive were declared deserts because the offer was not suitable for the government (Hemodialysis, Cardiology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Digital Service) and only one was awarded (Hospital Management System with Recovery of Expenses).

The project was delivered to Everis Argentina S.A. and that is how it joined forces with the Ministry of Health to be able to exchange data systems controlled by private hospitals to health centers located in the provinces and, in this way, to be able to integrate all the information about the medical situation of the patient into a single platform that can be consulted electronically and remotely by any institution. Total investment is $10 million.

The most important thing is to mention that in the processes of design and development of platforms and technology, doctors are being involved, who will be end users, and who can help establish uses and priorities to optimize patient services.

The deployment of the update involved to the way of use of clinical records will no longer be exclusive to a certain group of people and, in case the user wants to consult details such as their background, consultations, diagnostics, vaccination scheme or treatments, they can request it without having to repeat their data to enter them into a new system. This is being done with international standards for data sharing.

It is a fact that interoperability between systems in both health sectors (public and private) allows information to be managed more quickly and exchanged; ehCOS, a digital platform by Everis Health implemented in 3 hospitals in Cordoba, is born and will work so that all health status can be available in one place.

Currently what can be managed includes:

  • Medical history
  • Consultations
  • Guards
  • Hospitalization
  • Diagnosis
  • Laboratory
  • Pharmacy
  • Surgery
  • Nursing
  • Vaccination

Thanks to the plan Project for accessible and inclusive healthArgentina has contracted the services of a EHR to recover the expenses and collect the profits that this application can project. The most important thing will be to achieve the massification of use and penetration in the market.
