On Wednesday, April 6, the bill that seeks to regulate telehealth actions and services in the country was debated in the Brazilian Senate.
Bill 4,223/2021 was debated in the Social Affairs Commission on April 6 in the Brazilian Senate. Citizens participated in this meeting, since a section for questions and comments made through the Senate telephone line and through the e-Citizenship portal was enabled.
During the meeting, the legislators addressed issues related to telemedicine such as the importance of addressing data security, the quality of medical care and better payments for health professionals.
For his part, Senator Esperidião Amin explained that telehealth is one of the activities and services that grew the most during the pandemic, so it is necessary for the country to be prepared for greater growth, especially with the arrival of technology. 5G and innovations based on Artificial Intelligence. “There is no need to fear that it is an incomplete law. Because this is expanding and within a year we are going to need another one,” Senator Amin explained.
In this way, the debate on the bill was important to improve the proposal and open the conversation with experts and citizens. For example, the project seeks to include legal support for the health service in the Unified Health System (SUS) and for complementary health services.
The project has the support of the Digital Health Commission of the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), chaired by Antônio Carlos Endrigo. "The practice of telemedicine must be carried out by the free decision of the patient, or their legal representative, and under the professional responsibility of that doctor," Endrigo explained. In this way, if approved, the autonomy of the patient and the professionals involved will be guaranteed.
On the other hand, the president of Saúde Digital Brasil, Caio Soares, explained that in 2022 more than 30 million people will seek the option of telemedicine in emergency care, which will promote greater access to the supply of this type of service in Brazil. .
