The Peruvian Ministry of Health (Minsa) delivered new equipment to strengthen telehealth services in 678 health establishments in the country.
The Minsa delivered furniture and equipment to strengthen telemedicine strategies in 678 health establishments, and to optimize procedures with the latest technology. The central warehouse of the Minsa delivered to the General Directorate of Telehealth, Reference and Emergencies (Digtel), a total of 10,912 units of equipment, consisting of computer equipment, real estate, screens, printers and more.
“It is an implementation that seeks to transfer health to the most distant places in our country. We know that due to geography there are inaccessible places where we do not have the presence of medical specialists, but through telemedicine, we are going to achieve this goal,” explained Jorge López Peña, the minister of health.
The minister also recognized that the pandemic seriously affected the health system, however, it had positive aspects such as the implementation of telemedicine and teleconsultations in remote areas of the country.
On the other hand, Bernadette Cotrina, director of Digtel, explained that the investment for the equipment was more than 18 million soles, through which they seek to reduce the gap in outpatient care.
In addition, he mentioned that before the pandemic, Digtel registered 300 daily teleconsultations and during the pandemic the figure reached up to 3,500 daily teleconsultations. Likewise, the objective of the Minsa and Digtel is to achieve a new increase of between 30 and 40%.
"We are aware that, as Minsa, it is necessary to implement our technological capacity, since with this we will provide an essential tool so that health professionals can provide diagnostic opportunities and care as they deserve," concluded Cotrina.
