PAHO launched mobile app on newborn care

The Latin American Center for Perinatology (CLAP) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) presented eCBB, a new free mobile app that provides information on the care of newborns.

The eCBB app – Electronic care for babies It is part of the 28 days Campaign, time to care and love, promoted by PAHO. which aims to raise awareness about the importance of caring for newborns and offer evidence-based information to provide quality care and also contribute to reducing the neonatal mortality rate.

eCBB offers information to mothers and fathers of newborns in six main categories, such as frequently asked questions, breastfeeding issues, infant care, baby hygiene, health promotion and growth and development. It is available for download on Play Store and App Store for free.

“The development began with the assessment of the evidence of the use and results of information and communication technologies to improve neonatal health in general and in order to address health problems or specific interventions,” explains PAHO.

On the other hand, Pablo Durán, PAHO regional advisor on perinatal health, explained that: “Quality care requires evidence-based information and the participation of mothers, fathers, families, and caregivers. The eCBB application was designed to contribute to these objectives by facilitating access to useful and quality content”.

The app will facilitate access to training for families with newborns. In addition, the materials offered such as texts, videos, infographics, images, news and more are based on technical documents from the WHO/PAHO and its Virtual Health Library.

This PAHO strategy seeks to attack a problem of infant mortality and highlight the importance of care during the baby's first days and the promotion of good care practices.

In this, PAHO considers that universal access to timely and quality care for mothers and newborns is a key point for reducing neonatal mortality, therefore it is necessary to facilitate access to relevant, sensitive and reliable information. quality.
