Telemedicine Center in Peru serves more than 200 patients daily less than two months after its inauguration

The Piura Telemedicine Center has already attended more than 9,000 consultations since its inauguration in July of this year.

In the department of Piura, the On July 22, the Piura Telemedicine Center was inaugurated at Hospital III José Cayetano Heredia of EsSalud and after a month and a half of having started operations, they have carried out 9 thousand 564 consultations in general medicine and in specialties.

The two specialties with the highest demand within this new telemedicine center are physical therapy with nearly 900 consultations and pneumology with more than 600. On the other hand, only in remote consultations of general medicine they register 4 thousand 594, also in psychology consultations they have provided one thousand 269.

Other specialties that are available through telemedicine services are rheumatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, hematology, and more.

Dr. Milagritos Sánchez Reto, director of the hospital, explained that EsSalud seeks to create more telemedicine centers in the country to bring specialized health services closer to the population of all regions. And in this way reduce the waiting time for diagnoses and that patients receive timely treatment of their diseases.

“Telemedicine mainly helps chronic patients, who currently cannot access hospitals due to capacity issues. This center bridges the gaps in health care, bringing services closer to the most vulnerable populations with geographic access difficulties,” explained Sánchez Reto.

Currently, the Telemedicine Center provides more than 200 daily remote consultations, according to the hospital director. “More than 650,000 policyholders in the Piura region can access this digital platform and from the comfort of their homes receive real-time, quality and timely specialized care. This Telemedicine Center is a reality thanks to the efforts made by the Piura Assistance Network before the central level of EsSalud”.
