Amazon announced that its telehealth program, Amazon Care, will be available nationwide in the United States. The program, which was launched in September 2019 as a pilot for Amazon employees in Seattle, has evolved in recent years to become a provider of health services not only virtually but also in person.
In this sense, in March 2021, Amazon Care announced its launch for the general public with the aim of providing patient-centric care in a hybrid way. This platform combines the provision of virtual and face-to-face services to provide care to companies and families.
They currently have face-to-face services in cities such as Seattle, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Austin, Los Angeles, Washington DC and Arlington. In addition, they announced that this year they will establish themselves in 20 new US metropolitan areas, for the provision of their services, for example, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and New York.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a great demand for this type of service in the United States, in addition, the option of receiving virtual or home care allows patients to receive a more complete service. In this way patients can receive primary care, even care for chronic diseases.
“Patients are tired of a health system that doesn't put them first. Our patient-centric service is changing that, one visit at a time,” explained Kristen Helton, director of Amazon Care.
Among the services offered by the platform are primary and urgent care, COVID-19 and influenza tests, vaccinations, treatment of injuries and illnesses, sexual health, and prescription prescriptions and medication delivery.
