From July 1st, all citizens of the Member States of the European Union (EU) must start using the COVID Digital Certificate to make international trips.
The European Union COVID Digital Certificate It will function as certified proof via a QR code, verifying that the user has received the COVID-19 vaccine and has a negative test result. This will facilitate international travel within the EU, eliminating the need for quarantine for travelers arriving from other countries. The app is free and will also be available in a printed version.
From July 1st, all EU countries must adopt this measure to facilitate unrestricted international travel and ensure that infections do not increase. Since May 10th, 22 EU countries have been testing the app, and seven have already begun using it. Residents of Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria, Denmark, Greece, Poland, and the Czech Republic have started using this digital system.
The digital certificate was approved by the European Parliament on May 20th of this year and also received the backing of the EU Regulatory Council, which oversaw the technical aspects of this initiative. Therefore, the certificate is a reliable and secure system for verifying COVID vaccination.
Companies in the tourism industry, such as travel agencies and airlines, have called for the lifting of restrictions and the reopening of international borders within the EU. Their plans include the restoration of freedom of movement within the EU through the use of the COVID Digital Certificate.
After July 1, the EU will provide a six-week extension for issuing digital certificates to those countries that will require more time to implement this technology.
